Fire Alarms & Balls

Things I’ve had to endure the last week or so have been exciting. Want to know what’s happening with Indigo’s family? Let me fill you in on the curious conversations & antics.

Fire Alarms…

- They are red

- They are red and really stand out

- They are red, stand out, and beckon to toddlers "come here toddler, wanna play?"

- Indigo’s favorite color is purple

- Fire alarms are not purple

- Indigo still pulled the fire alarm

Co-Ed Baths…get your head out of the gutter

- They save time

- They save water

- They save my sanity

- Indigo has noticed that she and brother are different

- We have no fire alarm in our bathroom

- Indigo has now added the word scrotum to her vocabulary versus balls, did I choose right???  I mean I debated what word I wanted her to use in conversations with her fellow toddler friends and scrotum seemed more appropriate.

I got my hair chopped

- It is short

- It is easy peasy

- It is still black

- Indigo’s favorite color is purple

- There was a fire alarm at the salon I went to

- I do not have a scrotum, just incase you were wondering

Well that rounds out my updates for the week. Hug

Warm Bacon and Egg Salad

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one else above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away all my sadness
Ease my troubles that's what you do

There are so many things that I just love. There are so many things that float my boat. There are so many things that make my lips curl into a smile. There are so many things that make me want to twirl.

1. Watching some kick butt TV while enjoying wine not worrying about waking up 17 times per night.

2. Going to bathroom without a 4 year old and the cat in tow…and a baby on your lap.

3. Finding everything you left out the night before…right where you left it. Has anyone seen my remote control? Thermometer? Gum? Indigo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are so many things that I loathe. There are so many things that sink my ship. There are so many things that make me frown. There are so many things that make me want to curl up and take a nap.

1. Waking up 17 times per night.

2. Having a party of people in the bathroom every time I have to pee.

3. Having to change the TV channel manually, that right - with my own hand!!! Seriously people I have no less than 2,000 channels and Indy’s shows are on channel 109…mine 1042….

But something I made time for, besides watching Megamind with my dear sweet indigo while balancing a 3 month old on my head (not really), but something you should also make time for is this simple salad.

Ingredients
Dressing

2 tbs Olive Oil
1 tbs Red Wine Vinegar
1 tsp Dijon Mustard
Pepper

Salad

4 Romaine Lettuce Hearts
15 Cherry Tomatoes halved
4 slices of bacon, pan fried, chopped (hot please)
4 hard boiled eggs, quartered
Croutons..mine were pre-made shhhhhhh

Directions

Combine all of the dressing ingredients, shake rattle and roll that sucker..or mix, your choice. Toss dressing over chopped romaine and add remaining ingredients.

Real tough I know.

Later.

Cilantro Garlic Chicken Rolls & Lime Sauce

This weekend was full of fun and disaster all at the same time. We celebrated my daughter’s birthday 2 weeks early, shhhhhhh…please don’t tell her she’s not truly 4 yet. We have some prior engagements on her birthday and decided to do it now.

Have you ever seen a toddler with no nap and 20 presents to open? Well, I have - and I lived to tell the story. I would say that she tore into all presents in less than 3 minutes total. She also ate 2 lbs of butter cream frosting, because vanilla cake is simply the vehicle in which the frosting arrives.

Did I also mention she had a rock launched at her from her “bestie” and it plowed right into her lip, and I’m sure I’ve told you that despite her feisty personality when it comes to getting hurt I only have one word to describe her “Drama” and maybe also “Weenie”. Please don’t tell her I said that.

I would also like to pray to god to please make my little baby sleep all night I swear I will never ask for anything else ever ever ever again…this week. I say this because back in high school I think I prayed for zits to go away and also swore back then to never ask for anything again.

Anywho, you should eat this.

INGREDIENTS

4-6 Thin Cut Chicken Breasts
2 Limes, juiced, and zested
3 tbs of minced garlic
3 tbs of chopped cilantro
3 tbs of softened butter
2 tbs of vegetable oil, or more for frying
3 tbs of light brown sugar
Salt & Pepper
Toothpicks

DIRECTIONS

Add chopped garlic and chopped cilantro to the softened butter, combine well. Lay your thin cut chicken breast flat and coat each one with the same amount of the butter mixture, lightly sprinkle with salt & pepper.

Roll each chicken breast into a roll, and keep closed with toothpicks. Salt and Pepper again.

Add vegetable oil to a large frying pan or wok, bring to a medium high heat. Add your chicken and pan fry, turning often for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through.

Remove chicken from pan and let rest for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, the sauce. Add into your already hot pan the lime juice, zest, and brown sugar. Let the sauce simmer for 3-5 minutes and become thick. Remove from heat.

Remove toothpicks from chicken and slice into circles, pour sauce on top of chicken..ENJOY

Mornings

Sometimes mornings in my household can be a bit extreme. Let me..let you, have a peak into our mornings.

430am - Wake up, PUMP PUMP and not a New Jersey Fist pump...I'm talking machinery attached to the ladies in order for milk extraction to happen. TMI?

445am - Hear the baby start crying just as you finish, meaning now we need to bottle up the juice in order to feed him

500am - Stare at baby at through shower door, simultaneausly praying that he does not start crying.

505am - Hear toddler awaken, she immediately demands a waffle and applejuice...87 times.

510am - Try to find your hair brush (hint, it's dowstairs now hidden in a drawer because your toddler put it there.

515am - Decide the curly hair look is in today, apply make up, start sweating mid makeup application.

525am - Dress toddler and baby. Toddler demands that she be allowed to wear a dress, you say "no it's too cold outside." Commence the total breakdown of toddler.

527am - Put adult toothpaste on toddlers toothbrush, toddler foams at the mouth due to lack of peppermint experience. You can guess that this did not help the situation.

528am - Scream and Cry (me, not the toddler)

530am - Tell toddler if she doesn't settle down her whole birthday is cancelled.

535am - Feel really guilty about how much of a biatch I'm being.

545am - Get into car and drop the heathens off at daycare.

630am - Arrive at work and make everybody listen to your sob story of a morning...twice. Rinse, Repeat.
