Have you ever had your butt whooped by (3) 60 inch televisions? Well I have my people!! Let me tell you how
that went down, because it was a full body work-out by the time I got a new TV
in my house.

Picture this – It’s a gorgeous Saturday in sunny Southern

decided that it’s time to upgrade the old boob tube. No more burning images into the TV when you
pause it, upgrade city in the house sha-fizzle whizzle.

We arrive at Best Buy with our two kids, who will not behave

So he selects the television and it just so
happens to be the floor model, not only is it huge, but it’s highly

being thrifty and then pack that bitch up in the car. We’re so high on technology we even splurge
on some burgers and fries before coming home.

So now we’re at home, we’re full, happy, and ready to mount
the beautiful beast. So after 2 hours of
removing the old TV and refitting the new TV to be wall mounted, we hang it up,
we hang it up and admire the deep gauge running across its screen. This is when I almost cried. I don’t know about you, but I’m one of those
people where pretty much nothing goes right the first time!

So now we have to re-pack the beast and load it back into the
car, to take it back to Best Buy.
Thankfully they take it right back, believe me I was super

sized screws to be wall mounted.

That
night we plan on breaking it in with Breaking Bad and that’s when we realize
that the picture quality is that of something made 50 years ago. I suffered in silence through the first
episode of Breaking Bad and then I blurted out “I hate this TV, please take it
back!!!” Husband looked at me in
agreement, the sad teary eyes of agreement.
Round three was coming. The
people at Best Buy would probably be suspicious at this point!

See that?? I did that, I am so COOOOOOL!

I fell prey to a few home decorating blogs and got a wild hair, I decided to stencil our office. I love the overall look and couldn't be any happier! So I'll give you the skinny on what I learned, since this is my first time stenciling.

Where did I get my Stencil? What's Included? Price?
I purchased my Stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils. I was super happy with the service. I had my Stencil within 5 days. The stencil arrives packaged nicely so that there's no chance of damage. In each package you get colored instructions and a smaller stencil to help you fill in edges. The price of the stencil was a little shocking to me, I did look around the net for quite some time and $35-55 dollars seems to be the going rate for this type of stencil.

What tools do I need? What worked best for you?
Patience, stencil, latex/acrylic paints, paint tray, paper towels, wet wipes, stencil brush.

On the cutting edge website it mentioned using a high density foam roller over a brush, I have to tell you I couldn't get the stencil filled in properly using the roller. I had my husband go back to Home Depot for the stencil brush and let me tell you the quality greatly improved with the stencil. It took more time to do each dot by hand, but the crisp clean lines from this method were worth it.

When I was using the foam roller I just couldn't get a nice coat, perhaps it's because the dots are decently small - Perhaps with a larger stencil a roller would work. Or it might just be me.

This is one pass with the stencil, so you can see the Size

How did you pick your colors?
I got 4 samples of different grays from Home Depot. I painted a large square with each on my wall. I then lived with the grays for a couple of days. It's important to see them all at once and in different light. I was super surprised at just how different each gray was.

Once I picked the gray I then taped up white paint samples against the grey, white is what I chose for the beads. I must have looked at 20 whites before I chose the right white for me. I'm super professional yo!

How long did this take?
You know what, this took a little longer then I thought it would. After I painted my accent wall gray, the white stencil took me about 5 hours. You have to keep things lined up and have to clean the stencil every so often - so that takes time. I did find that once I quit using the roller and went with the brush I didn't have to clean the stencil so often since paint wasn't weighing it down.

The Stenciling dries super quick!

Tips?
Take down all your blinds and curtains, make sure the surface is flat.

As you're stenciling make sure to press down on the stencil, you don't want drips or the stencil brush going under the stencil. Tap the stencil with the brush or make little circles, I found both ways produced the same results as far as coverage. Pressing the stencil down prevents the bristles from slipping under the exposed pattern.

Once I got to corners I held the stencil with my own hands and had my husband hand me the loaded stencil brush, I just could not get the stencil to tape up properly on some corners and this worked for us.

Would I do this again?
Oh Heck yeah! I just LOVE LOVE the way it turned out. I think the stencil was of great quality, and found lots of info on the Cutting Edge site to make the project as easy as it could be for a first timer.
Why do kids act up when you have guest over? I think it must have something to do with
needing every bit of attention floating around and the room. Perhaps needing to
show off any skill and or trick they’ve acquired over their very short life

my own damn dinner party. Live and learn

Speaking of learning, if you’re going to candy bacon for a
salad – do not just candy 5 slices. That
would be dumb. What this leads to is
telling your husband and child that they can’t try any, but then you will be
sneaking it when nobody’s looking and that leads to all sorts of guilt…ok, not really.

What you need to do is order a whole pound of bacon and candy

Ladies and gents, this makes the bacon null

Speaking of Lasagna (I was talking to the voices in my
head), I made a pretty damn good one for my dinner party. Let me preface this Lasagna with saying it’s
got a weeeeeee bit of prep involved. If
you have children you need to tell your significant other or quite possibly a
super cool neighbor that they’ll need to keep your kids in check. You could also lock them in a basement - but I
live in California and we don’t have those here.

I hear this Lasagna was the most pinned recipe of 2013, it’s

I think I would leave the mushrooms out next time though. I would have preferred some chopped broccoli and
more spinach - DO NOT SKIP the Lemon Zest, wow did that ever come through. It was awesome.

I was going to post the 15 new recipes that I've made over the last few months but then I realized you guys probably already know how to turn on the oven and place frozen food inside. I was getting so good at this cooking thing and then I just fell off the wagon. Let me tell you, I've lost my mojo.

I'm not really too sad about this, I mean life gets in the way sometimes. I never told myself I wouldn't be the mom who fills her kids with PB&J and Macaroni and Cheese. Being super healthy and homemade in the food department was never a huge goal of mine. My biggest goal quite honestly is to make it through day with some sort of semi smile on my face.

Let's face it some days are rough. I'm mother to a 5 and almost 2 year old, and I'm sort of obsessive about a clean house. This is not a good combination as some of you might know. I was doing good for awhile there but now all I'm finding is popcorn kernels and Strawberry Jam smashed into my pretty rugs.

Let me also mention that on Christmas Eve my almost 2 year old hit an entire glass of red wine out of my husbands hands, it landed on the carpet...I almost cried...except I had already had some wine so that helped curb my "Husband how could you not have held onto the big red glass of red wine" reaction. Now every time I walk downstairs the only thing I see is the red wine stain that's oddly the shape of Florida, like a huge huge huge version of Florida. I don't particularly enjoy the state anymore!

So the food in the pictures, well it's one of the one things I made fresh over the last week or so. My husband almost shat a brick coming home to a full on meal. Yes I said "shat a brick", Despite the lack of real cooking going on in my house I do manage to keep very ladylike behavior.

You can find the delicious Simple Asian Soy Peanut Noodles Here (I used Udon Noodles).
You can find the Scrumpdiddlyuptious Asian Beef Lettuce wraps here.

The noodles hold up for days! Thanks Georgia from The Comfort of Cooking, the recipes were so tasty and super simple. Shoot - I used Chili Sauce from a packet from Panda Express so I didn't have to go buy any, cause that how I ROLL.
beg for it 75 times). Then I go to pick

So basically my kids are spitting all over the car with a freaking blow

sure that’s earth’s party foul! I know
some of you will be jealous and tell me that it was negative 90 degrees at your
house…but I’m sad. It’s November, like
mid freaking November and I’m in tank tops.
I guess I just can’t go running, because one of my hard and fast rules
is not running when it’s over 70 degrees outside. So basically I think mother earth is
preventing me from reaching my true athletic ability.

Speaking of athletic ability, have you ever been playing
rough with your kids like flipping them all around high in the air and then
accidentally letting go of the 19 month old who then plummets to the ground
landing on his face?

Oh, I have another question for you. Have you ever went to
the same fast food restaurant for like 3 or 4 days in a row ordering the same
thing at the same time and the person in the drive-thru who works at the same
time every day starts to recognize you and point out to you that you have now
been there for 3 or 4 days in a row and that you should probably be ashamed of
yourself for coming back over and over because it’s like 90 degrees out and you
know you’re not going for a run after this to burn off the 1,000 calories your
consuming after every trip to her store and probably your kid would not have
face planted last night if you could have just gone for a run and burnt of
those 4 chicken mini’s that you had for 3 or 4 days in a row?

I have a few random things to talk about today.

Fact – I have given birth to two children.
Fact – The total cost of birthing those two children was about 10 dollars.
Fact – The total cost of one root canal from my Dentist was 924 dollars.

This does NOT compute.

Random fact about me – I record all of the voices for our 800 numbers where I work. When I hear someone calling into them I always ask them “OMG, who is that sexy lady you’re talking too”?

Fact – I find like 5 sippy cups in my car every week.
Fact – The reason I find 5 sippy cups in my car every week is because once they’ve sat in there long enough they start to stink making them easy to locate.
Fact – I spend a lot of money on sippy cups.

Basic Ingredients
Pie Crust
6 eggs
¾ cup cream or half and half
½ cup cheese (I used Gruyere)
Salt & Pepper

- You can add anything from here. I added one large caramelized onion, 1 cup of diced and sauteed potatoes (I sauteed them with Olive Oil, Italian Seasoning, and a dash of soy sauce), and 2 cooked and chopped slices of bacon.

Directions
Prepare your pie crust. Mix together your eggs, cream, cheese, and some salt and pepper. Next I sprinkled my onion, taters, and bacon into the pie crust. Pour egg mixture into your pie crust. Bake at 375 for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick from the center comes out nice and clean.

Fact – This quiche cost more to make then it cost me to birth two babies.
Fact – This quiche hurt less than the babies to make.
Fact – You can eat quiche, but you really shouldn’t eat babies

These past few weeks have been HELL on earth. First off we sold our house - that was a breeze. The real horror started with finding our dream house and then being chewed up and spit out for 8 weeks while trying to buy it. I consumed Popeye’s every day for weeks, it was WINE-o’clock every night by 7pm, and I probably wasn’t the nicest mommy that whole time either.

But finally, that house is ours. After a bidding war, 3 appraisals, 4 episodes of re-locking our rate, notary’s mailing paperwork to the wrong people, and countless (642) emails, that effing house is ours!! Maxim Properties, you did not beat me!

PS - It's back to posting regularly for me!! I'm making it a "me" priority.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02637197654825767682noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5933704379750357941.post-80571573001360724642013-05-08T14:52:00.001-07:002013-05-08T14:52:03.492-07:00Banana Bread + House Changes

I have a math problem for you, most likely you wouldn’t have needed my help coming up with the answer to my problem but I went ahead anyways and solved it for you.

Me + Husband + 4 year old + 1 year old + hotel room + 4 days = Wine Time.

We’ve gone and sold our house, and it had to be tented before we could close. The family and I decided to shack up in a hotel for 4 days and brave the Lego Land Water Park in 60 degree weather and gale force winds…and we survived!

Go us.

We’ve also managed to buy another house! We’re in love of course, and can’t wait to move in. We’re just busy with paperwork and final details at the moment. Once we’re all moved in I’ll be sure to give you a tour. This place has a brand new oven I can’t wait to break in, how else will I reheat all the Taco Bell tacos I eat. Of course I’m also thinking about food pictures and just how my new counter tops will look in them.

I also managed to make banana bread – I am so freaking awesome it hurts. My review of it, nothing special but just fine and with very little ingredients very very easy.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02637197654825767682noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5933704379750357941.post-12074316122627907802013-04-23T14:21:00.001-07:002013-04-23T14:21:46.268-07:00Will.I.Am and Britney, fish

So there’s this pop song out there by Will.I.Am - Scream & Shout (feat. Britney Spears), this song has some lyrics in it that are not appropriate for 4 year olds. Let me sing them for you (I'm a freaking awesome singer!).

wanna scream and shout and let it all out
And scream and shout and let it out
We sayin', "Ohh, wee ohh, wee oh wee oh"
We sayin', "Ohh, wee ohh, wee oh wee oh"
I wanna scream and shout and let it all out
And scream and shout and let it out
We sayin', "Ohh, wee ohh, wee oh wee oh"
You are now-now rockin' with Will.I.Am and Britney, bitch

So Indigo loves this song, loves it. She’s singing it and I’m recording it for grandma – secretly I wanted her to utter that word so I could laugh. But instead she stops right before and..

Indigo – "Mom, we can’t say that word"
Me – "What word Indigo ?"
Indigo - "You are now-now rockin' with Will.I.Am and Britney, FISH"
Me – "Oh yes yes Indigo, that’s right…we couldn’t possibly be allowed to say Britney, Fish."

She's so cute.

I do not like going to BevMo for their 5 cent sale - and not liking any of the 8 bottles I bought. The wine gods would kill me but I’ve been mixing them in order to create the best possible taste. I simply must have a great wine to go with my american cheese, cheez-its, and peanut butter filled pretzels, and juicy fruit. (gotta keep my snacks classy yo!)…

Yes I sometimes chew gum and drink wine at the same time.

In fact there are many things I like to do while drinking wine. Shoot, I’m probably drinking wine right now and you wndluot eevn konw it. I can tpye and dnirk at the smae tmie.

Joking Joking..

So back to the discussion, things made more fun by wine.

1. Everything
2. Refer back to number 1

There now you have learned something today. Also did I tell you my little one is walking? I might have already told you but I’m way too lazy to look at my last posts to find out. He started his little zombie walk and he hasn’t look back..in fact he hadn’t looked down either and that means plenty of busted lips and bruises.

And if he was 21 and could have wine then all of those busted lips and bruises would be much more fun. See how I am connecting things here?

We have teeth too! Him and me, just in case you were wondering. He sprouted 4 of them at once and now he’s eating everything in sight. This makes me ponder though, how can he not see any toy below his feet while walking (hence the tripping) but he can spot a ¼ of a 3 year old Cheerio out of the corner of his eye from space?

And space would totally be better with wine if you ask me.

Anyways, I made this easy Slow Cooker Brown Sugar & Garlic Chicken over the weekend. I served it over brown rice, topped with parsley. It was quite tasty and did its job, what job do you ask – well it sat next to my glass of wine like a good dinner.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02637197654825767682noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5933704379750357941.post-82337692636126603072013-02-12T12:41:00.003-08:002013-02-15T09:10:15.007-08:00Avocado & Cilantro Lime Sauce

I felt such confusion this weekend. On Saturday I walked into my child’s room because it was 7:30am, Indigo never sleeps this late. I walked in and she took one look at me, then said “Mommy I want to rest some more.” This is where my very profound confusion set in.

I have never in all of my 4 1/2 years with her ever been told that she wants to go back to sleep. You can imagine that delight did not set in, I was confused, I was panicked… Many things were running through my head at this point.

1. How sick must my child be to want to sleep 14 hours?
2. Where is that damn thermometer, and why can’t I keep it in one spot?
3. Why is Nancy Grace so obnoxious?

The first 2 questions have answers don’t bother with that third question. My poor little Indigo was subdued with a high fever of 104. The sad thing is…it was wonderful for her mommy. They sure do grow up fast, because I haven’t taken care of her like that for what seems like decades.

I cuddled her, stroked her sweet head, dosed her up with kid medicines, and watched 17 Barbie Movies in a row and Chipwrecked…twice. I brought her things like toast, grapes, and ice water. Indigo instead chose 2 pieces of bacon, a GoGurt, and 5 sippy's of milk….yes it was against my better judgement to feed her such things not knowing the state of her stomach…however I played my odds and won.

Speaking of won, these tacos are a wonner…umm, I mean a winner! The sauce is as lovely as Nancy Grace, just kidding this sauce kicks that woman’s butt.

Avocado & Cilantro Lime Sauce

1 bunch of Green Onions
1 cup Cilantro
1 Large Avocado, diced
2 Garlic Cloves
¼ cup Rice Vinegar
¼ cup Lime Juice
Salt & Pepper for taste

*Place the pit of the avocado in your finished sauce, it keeps longer that way.

Place all of it in your food processor and blend well, add salt and pepper to your liking. We used these on our Char Siu tacos. Everything served in a piping hot corn tortilla. Indigo just had bacon, a very pleasing alternative if you ask me.

PS. This recipe is borrowed and is the same except for the avocado I've added, and I can't for the life of me find the site where I stole the idea from. Please forgive me!

Apparently I have been driving around blind, and I didn't even notice until the last few days. Basically I felt like someone was pumping air into my head (no jokes please), and that it might explode at any moment. I took a quick trip to the doctor and she let me know I realllllly needed to be checked out for glasses, and I did immediately.

After the new glasses were purchased I hit the rode, and my world has changed! I had no idea cars didn't have 16 tail lights.... The trees now have individual little leaves and I don't have to squint at the TV to see which Real Housewives marathon I'm watching.

I also noticed the the floor drastically needs mopped and there's dust all over the baseboards. Something tells me these glasses are going to make me clean tons this weekend. Hmmmm...maybe my husband needs glasses...

I also made the realization that I am a recipe repeater at the moment. I accept this. I long to be the blogger that creates rather then repeats and passes on but that's just not me. I'm simply a super busy mom who loves her kids, hubby, TV, wine, and random crap she cooks borrowed from other peoples wonderful imaginations.

Everyone has a role to play and I am happy to accept mine! I am the queen of bad TV, sauvignon blanc, over medium eggs for dinner, messy cars, pop music, and putting way too much butter on toast.

This week I managed to candy some pecans and bake some chocolate chip cookie bars with them. In all honesty I preferred to just eat the candied pecans, super super yummy.

Folks, have a grand weekend.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02637197654825767682noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5933704379750357941.post-56302161387501633522013-01-31T13:26:00.000-08:002013-02-01T14:47:39.407-08:00Pink Eye,Teeth, and Infections!

I’ve made a few dishes over the last few days and either they sucked or my photo’s sucked. Try taking gorgeous food pictures with a baby in one hand! Try taking gorgeous food pictures with a baby in one hand, who also has a double ear infection, pink eye, and 4 teeth coming in simultaneously. My baby also shared his Pink Eye with his sister, at least he has manners.

My house is like one big infected coughing leaking monster butt. It also feels weird to post these gorgeous pictures of my son and have the words infested coughing leaking monster butt on the page at the same time.

Speaking of leaking butts.

Just Kidding.

Anyways, what I’m trying to say is – My skills are fading! I am however, proficient in one arm dishwasher unloading, naptime mass cleanings, and tricking children into taking medicine… Ok well, I can trick my 4 year old into taking medicine. I have to actually sit on my baby, pry open his eyes, and pray to the gods accomplish this task.

Hope you’re all having a wonderful week!

Are you a Mombie? My toddler knows that I love zombie movies and I’m her mom, hence she has started calling me Mombie. I think that there are certain qualifiers..do you fit the bill?

1. You have re-fluffed your laundry, 4 times, for three days straight. There is also laundry waiting in the washer, and well…it’s been rewashed due to the faint odor of laziness. Note to self : Jennifer you are not nice for the environment.

2. Your car is so clean, not really. Your car is filled with sippy cups, Sofie the giraffe, lots and lots of glitter and a random latex glove - you have no idea where that came from.

3. You can eat an entire dinner in 3.5 seconds because that’s when the next request comes in for you to get up and fetch something for somebody else.

4. You have not worked out in a year unless you count chasing the baby who relentlessly tries to climb the stairs, stand in the tub while soapy, and mount all of his toys working out – yes I said mount his toys.

Delightfully borrowed from <span style="color: #bf9000; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">My Baking Addiction, might as well venture to her site for the recipe. This Mombie gives credit where credit is due. This Mombie is also lazy, but I took pictures for you..that has to count for something. I also taste tested these bad boys and they were a delight on my tongue. Did you also notice how I added sparkles and daisy’s – gosh I’m good.

I have to say that I have been so indulgent lately that my body actually made me, make this corn salad.

Body – “Jennifer eat that sugar cookie”

Jennifer – “ok body, no problem…infact how about two?”

Body – “Sure, two is fine..but there are only 5 in the bag so you might as well eat the other two..”

Jennifer – “Nahhhh…that seems over the top”

Body – “Well if you don’t want cookies how about a glass of wine?”

Jennifer – “omg body you read my mind, I’ll totally have a glass.”

Body – “Now that you have had some wine Jennifer, how about 2 more cookies?”

Jennifer – “Yes please”

That’s how the past few weeks have been between me and the old body, it forces me to eat chocolate, olives, wine, and sugar cookies…no I am not pregnant.

So after many days of iced sugar cookies, body demanded something a bit more fresh and healthy..and so we made this corn salad.

Then we ate more cookies…

INGREDIENTS

6 Ears of Corn
½ Red Onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
4 tsp Red Wine Vinegar
1 tbs Olive Oil
2 tsp Sugar
2 Avocados, cubed
15 Cherry Tomatoes, halved
Feta
Basil
Pine Nuts, toasted

DIRECTIONS

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add in 2 tsp of Red Wine Vinegar and 2 tsp Sugar to the boiling Water. Add 6 ears of corn to the water, return to a boil then remove from heat and cover for 10 minutes.

Remove the ears of corn and let cool, then remove the kernels and place in a bowl. Add in the remaining 2 tsp of Red Wine Vinegar, Olive Oil, Avocado, Tomatoes, and Red Onion. Top with Feta and shredded basil and toasted pine nuts (which you cannot see in my pictures because I suck and didn't add them until after the picture session, most likely I was distracted by eating cookies).

Dude, plane rides with a 4 year old and 8 month old double
suck. I would actually pay an extra 500
dollars for another person’s ticket just to help me & the hubster out. That’s right Husband and I were straight up
broken souls after the flights.

Things that happened on the airplane that involved drinks…there
were plenty. Let’s just say the guy in
front of us got his head washed with some Sprite Zero. Let’s also say that my pants and a can of
Coke became friends when I looked away from my babies prying hands for 2
seconds.

Have you ever had to run through O’Hare with 2 kids…without
your stroller? ME ME ME ME ME, I have. We had to ditch our stroller that we gate
checked just to make it to our connection since all of our flights were
delayed. My biceps = flimsy hurting
sacks of muscle.

Does your baby sleep on airplanes? If so then the heck with
you! Mine stayed up for 8 hours of
flight time. Have you ever watched 8
hours tick by before, while being trapped on an airplane? Have you ever watched 8 hours tick by before,
while being trapped on an airplane, with 2 kids?

But heck, we made it.
Now imagine two San Diego peeps and 40 degree weather. We arrived in Pittsburgh to flurries!!

Oh OH OH, I have one more funny story. We accidentally took a toll road and when we
got to the toll we didn’t have quarters or any *real* money for that
matter. It was snowing and about
midnight…We <strike>flipped our stuff</strike> patiently
waited until a nice person came up after
about 15 minutes and graciously gave us 50 cents.

Next we spent a glorious 10 days relaxing, visiting, tv
watching, wine drinking etc. I have to
say though I will not be flying for at least 5 more years. SORRY MOM!

Kids are funny, I feel like I should keep a notebook with me
just so I can fill you guys in on the happenings in our house. I have a disgusting, hilarious, short little
story to tell you. Please read no
further if you can’t handle fart talk…with a side of Chinese food.

Let me set you up. It’s
a cool evening and the house it lit up with Vanilla candles and everything is
just so nice inside. Being that I’m into
health food and all, I provided my family with a proper meal from Panda
Express. Indigo & I enjoyed some Fried
Rice and Chicken Egg Rolls while waiting for dad to get home from work.

So dad gets home and of course Miss Indy runs over to kiss
and hug her hero of a dad. It’s sweet,
she loves him so much and misses him.
After our greetings my husband goes and tackles the Panda Express box
for himself. He makes a large plate and
sits down in front of the boob tube (cause that’s how we roll).

As he is eating Miss Indy goes over to him
She stands in front of him
She turns around and shows her back to him
Dear Husband takes a bite of Chinese Food

Miss Indy bends over and lets out a gargantuan fart
